Quantum Simulation·2026

Graphical Simulator for Cavity-Coupled Color Centers

I took on the challenge of building a full stack simulator for cavity coupled Group IV quantum memory devices. It works well and replicates experimental results.

  • Python
  • Open quantum systems
  • Monte Carlo
  • GUI

Course Projects·2026

Semiconductor Device Fabrication in the Cleanroom

On a team of four in BYU's cleanroom, I helped fabricate our own semiconductor devices from scratch, including a MOSFET, photodiodes, solar cells and a laser.

  • Cleanroom fabrication
  • Semiconductor devices
  • Photolithography
  • Integrated optics

Robotics & Controls·2025

Single-Wheel Robot

As a summer project, I built a robot from scratch. I modeled and 3D-printed the parts, built the power electronics, and programmed it. The design is modular, allowing for two different modes of operation.

  • 3D CAD
  • 3D printing
  • Power electronics
  • Control systems

Integrated Photonics·Summer 2025

Photonic Crystal Ring Resonators for Dispersion Engineering

I designed, simulated and laid out photonic crystal ring resonators, fabricated through Nokia, that use a corrugated inner wall to split chosen resonances and engineer dispersion.

  • Lumerical FDTD
  • GDS layout
  • Microring resonators
  • Dispersion engineering

Integrated Photonics·2025

Active Green Machine Chip Design

An ongoing collaboration to design an active, on-chip green machine with researchers from UMD and the University of Arizona.

  • Photonic device design
  • Waveguide simulation
  • Modulator control electronics

Integrated Photonics·2025

Passive Green Machine Chip for Conference QKD

Fabrication, packaging and characterization of an on-chip passive "green machine" for multi-party conference key distribution. I built a digital twin for the packaged device and found expected key rates for the system.

  • Photonic integrated circuits
  • Digital twin
  • QKD security analysis

Quantum Simulation·2024

Simphony: Quantum Simulation of Photonic Circuits

I contributed to Simphony, BYU CamachoLab's open-source photonic integrated circuit simulator. I did work mostly on the quantum simulation side, including implementing density matrices and sum-of-Gaussian-states capabilities.

  • Python
  • JAX
  • Continuous-variable quantum optics

Integrated Photonics·Jan – Jul 2022

QRNG FPGA Control & Randomness Extraction

Designed the FPGA system that digitizes a quantum random signal and turns it into certified random bits in real time with a hardware Toeplitz hasher.

  • FPGA
  • Artix-7
  • Toeplitz hashing
  • Entropy estimation

Integrated Photonics·2022

Integrated Homodyne QRNG: Chip & Deployment

Experimental work on a quantum random number generator built from a photonic chip with co-designed on-chip transimpedance amplifiers, from wirebonding the chip to deploying it at Oak Ridge National Laboratory.

  • Homodyne detection
  • Photonic chips
  • Edge coupling
  • Transimpedance amplifiers

Engineering Teams·2022

As a freshman in BYU's rocket club, I built a rocket designed to fly to a specific target altitude.

  • OpenRocket
  • Flight simulation
  • Rocketry

Embedded & Hardware·2021

Embedded Rust on the Raspberry Pi Pico

I worked on bringing up embedded Rust on the RP2040 microcontroller during a summer internship at Harsch Systems. There was no official SDK support, so I worked from the C SDK as a reference, which was very helpful.

  • Rust
  • Embedded HAL
  • RP2040

Embedded & Hardware·2021

RP2040 Industrial I/O Board

Continuing my work at Harsch Systems, I designed two generations of an RP2040 industrial I/O board in KiCad, with 0–10 V and 4–20 mA input and output, along with optical isolation.

  • KiCad
  • PCB design
  • Surface-mount design
  • Analog circuits
