Integrated Photonics·2026
Quantum Frequency Conversion System
Designed and built a free-space quantum frequency conversion setup that shifts 737 nm light to the 1283 nm telecom O-band in a PPLN waveguide, reaching ~75% internal quantum efficiency.

I am a researcher in quantum information science, focusing on the development of quantum devices and networks. I’ve worked on projects big and small, from cavity-coupled group-IV center simulations to integrated photonics chips for QKD and homodyne detection. Check out this page to see what I’ve built both in the lab and at home.

Integrated Photonics·2026
Designed and built a free-space quantum frequency conversion setup that shifts 737 nm light to the 1283 nm telecom O-band in a PPLN waveguide, reaching ~75% internal quantum efficiency.
Quantum Simulation·2026
I took on the challenge of building a full stack simulator for cavity coupled Group IV quantum memory devices. It works well and replicates experimental results.
Integrated Photonics·2025
Fabrication, packaging and characterization of an on-chip passive "green machine" for multi-party conference key distribution. I built a digital twin for the packaged device and found expected key rates for the system.
Integrated Photonics·Jan – Jul 2022
Designed the FPGA system that digitizes a quantum random signal and turns it into certified random bits in real time with a hardware Toeplitz hasher.
Engineering Teams·2026
I'm currently on BYU's Mars Rover team, where we are preparing to compete next year.

Course Projects·Jan – Apr 2026
As part of BYU's electrical engineering junior core, I built a working laser tag system from the ground up, including the optical transmitter and receiver board.
Quantum Simulation·2026
I took on the challenge of building a full stack simulator for cavity coupled Group IV quantum memory devices. It works well and replicates experimental results.
Course Projects·2026
On a team of four in BYU's cleanroom, I helped fabricate our own semiconductor devices from scratch, including a MOSFET, photodiodes, solar cells and a laser.
Robotics & Controls·2025
As a summer project, I built a robot from scratch. I modeled and 3D-printed the parts, built the power electronics, and programmed it. The design is modular, allowing for two different modes of operation.
Integrated Photonics·Summer 2025
I designed, simulated and laid out photonic crystal ring resonators, fabricated through Nokia, that use a corrugated inner wall to split chosen resonances and engineer dispersion.
Integrated Photonics·2025
An ongoing collaboration to design an active, on-chip green machine with researchers from UMD and the University of Arizona.

Fabrication, packaging and characterization of an on-chip passive "green machine" for multi-party conference key distribution. I built a digital twin for the packaged device and found expected key rates for the system.
Quantum Simulation·2024
I contributed to Simphony, BYU CamachoLab's open-source photonic integrated circuit simulator. I did work mostly on the quantum simulation side, including implementing density matrices and sum-of-Gaussian-states capabilities.
Integrated Photonics·Jan – Jul 2022
Designed the FPGA system that digitizes a quantum random signal and turns it into certified random bits in real time with a hardware Toeplitz hasher.
Integrated Photonics·2022
Experimental work on a quantum random number generator built from a photonic chip with co-designed on-chip transimpedance amplifiers, from wirebonding the chip to deploying it at Oak Ridge National Laboratory.
Engineering Teams·2022
As a freshman in BYU's rocket club, I built a rocket designed to fly to a specific target altitude.
Embedded & Hardware·2021
I worked on bringing up embedded Rust on the RP2040 microcontroller during a summer internship at Harsch Systems. There was no official SDK support, so I worked from the C SDK as a reference, which was very helpful.
Embedded & Hardware·2021
Continuing my work at Harsch Systems, I designed two generations of an RP2040 industrial I/O board in KiCad, with 0–10 V and 4–20 mA input and output, along with optical isolation.
Software & Algorithms·2021
My high school capstone project. It estimated the noise floor of real signals from the Daniel K. Inouye Solar Telescope (DKIST) in real time.
Embedded & Hardware·2020
This was the first project of my first internship. I wrote a Linux kernel driver so a Raspberry Pi could drive Pi-Plates expansion boards.
Machine Learning·2020
This was the culmination of several months' worth of trying to teach myself machine learning. I wanted to teach a simulated car to drive a track with Q-learning in TensorFlow.
Software & Algorithms·2018
Used a character-frequency dataset to decrypt a Caesar-shifted plaintext without the key. A fun little project that seemed like magic to me at the time.
Games & Web·2018
A lunar lander game that I wrote from scratch in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. It has a random terrain generator and a physics and collision simulator that I wrote.
Engineering Teams·2017 – 2020
For three seasons, I was the autonomous and programming lead for my high school FTC robotics team. I wrote code to autonomously locate the robot using computer vision techniques and reference photos.
